Welcome to the McCracken Aerodrome,

Our
little slice of heaven!

Home to the Charlotte Aeromodelers.

A great place to meet new friends, fly it up, and to sit

back and enjoy yourself.

Site Plan

We have a first class flying site, located in Union County near the intersection of HWYs 218 and 200 fourteen miles east off of I-485 Exit 44 Hwy 218 East. Consisting of  five (5) acres of unobstructed land, it is one of the finest sites in the Southeast and allows us to host numerous events, as well as allow enough room for flying giant scale aircraft. Driving time from the center of Charlotte (downtown) is about 40-45 minutes.

We are open for business and accepting new members. A lot of progress has been made to create one if not the best flying facility in the Southeast.

The McCracken Aerodrome (named after our landownwers and members, Doug and Lou Ann McCracken), will be the home to the Charlotte Aeromodelers as a place for our families, neighbors and friends to gather to spend time doing what we love, flying model airplanes and share our knowledge of the sport.

Once completed, the facility will house a family area, a centerpiece gathering space known as the Pavillion, additional shelter, gravel parking lot, open area for campers, and storage. The master plan will take this facility to a new level.

The Aerodrome is located on 5 acres with 70 acres of overflight and is planted in bermuda for a perfect flat East-West 400' grass runway.

Directions
From I-485: Take Exit 44 Hwy 218 east until you come to Hwy 200 (approx. 14 miles). Turn left on 218 (Morgan Mill Rd.) and look for the rustedout sign on the left at the second driveway. There will be a gravel road which leads to our field.
